My Responsibilities

As the Game Designer, my responsibilities included-

• Designing, building and implementing all puzzles in the game

• Working with the Creative Director to design and blockout the open world

• Implementation of multiple systems and mechanics into levels

• Writing character dialogue and Journal Entries, expanding on the lore/backstory of the world

• Leading in-person playtesting sessions, collecting feedback from playtesters and implementing changes to address their issues/suggestions with levels

Level Design

In the early development of the game, I designed and blocked out a variety of puzzles, which included the following-

Level Prototypes

After going through multiple stages of iterative testing and redesigns, the final puzzles looked like this-

Final Levels

My contributions included-

• Designing, blocking out and implementing all puzzles featured in the game

• Implementing the systems and mechanics into each level, using the tools created by the programmer

• Working closely with artists and the programmer in the creation of the mechanics, assets and VFX for each level

• Presenting builds of levels to the team for review, to deadlines

• Leading in-person playtesting sessions, collecting feedback from playtesters and implementing changes to address their issues/suggestions with levels

Narrative Design

My contributions to the narrative of the game came in 2 forms-

Journal Entries

Journal Entries were collectables that took the form of short poems written by a mysterious character, illustrating their journey through the world the player inhabits

I decided these should be short poems as I wanted them to be purposefully mysterious and ambiguous, so that players would have to do some further analysis of them in order to gain some meaning/context from them

Character Dialogue

I wrote all the dialogue of the characters in the game

I wanted each character to feel unique in their own right, with all of them serving to push forward the mysterious/wonderous nature of this unfamiliar land
